Seiko Electronic Ink Watch

The Seiko Electronic Ink Watch for women has no diamond or ruby embellishments, but instead has the appearance of a sleek silver (titanium) and black lacquer bracelet. The "lacquer," which surrounds the center of the watch is actually a flexible LCD display that features extraordinary contrast and clarity. The display is covered in a continuous sapphire crystal (not the deep-blue faceted type but the clear smooth type usually used for high end watch crystals). Already awarded one of the highest honors in watchmaking for this design, Seiko has dubbed this forerunner as the shape of things to come.

Now the fun part: The LCD display that is so cleverly engineered into this seemingly innocent bracelet has a secret. By day, it shows an efficient and more generic time display (translation = conservative enough for the office). A button-push later and the entire display rolls into action showing the time in an exhibition of beautifully embellished numbers (see photo above for the more inspired of the two displays), perfect for an evening on the town.
This beauty, brought to you by silicone and not carbon, is scheduled to launch in the Fall of 2007 and is expected to retail for around $2,000.
